“Architects frequently like to think of buildings as sculptures on a landscape. This is something that is lost on most people, Brummund brings this back and makes it more apparent to the rest of us. Video performance isolating a section of the Burchfield Penney Art Centers own building will re-investigate the surface and form of our new home.” -S. Propeack, Burchfield-Penney Art Center Curator for Beyond/In Western New York 2010
Description: This building is a remarkable addition to Buffalo’s historical architecture. The solid geometric is bold feature in the landscape. There is one corner that feels carved out rather than built out. The video projection fills this negative space. Images of the materials, the site, and the museum’s collection contextualize the form, but our perception fluctuates. The changing compositions, focal points, and proportions are important to knowing, unknowing, and making something new.
